What is Diabetic Retinopathy ?

Diabetic retinopathy is when Diabetes affects the innermost layer of the eye which is called the Retina. A healthy retina is vital to have good vison. The early diabetic changes in the retina come up as bleeding spots in the retina. More severe diabetic retinopathy is when there is swelling in the retina called CSME, massive bleeding called Vitreous Hemorrhage or Sub HyloidHemorrhage. These can lead to loss of vision .

Can Diabetic Retinopathy be treated?

Absolutely! A timely detection and prompt treatment can result in restoration of vison. Treatment of diabetic retinopathy entails intraocular injections, lasers and in some cases, retinal surgery.
